Mouly is pronounced Maou-lee. My full name is Mouly Arun Prabhu Kumaraswamy (Tamil: மௌலி அருண் பிரபு குமாரசுவாமி). That’s quite a mouthful, I know – you can just call me Mouly.
Work
I have more than 4 years of experience in the technology industry in various roles like Information Architect, Research Assistant, Web Developer, and Technical Writer. I’m passionate about using quantitative and qualitative research methods to improve product design and strategy, and using my creative skills to prototype and ideate on designs.
Education
I hold a Master of Science in Information, with a specialization in Human Computer Interaction, from the University of Michigan School of Information. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science Engineering from Bharathiyar University in India.
Play
In my free time, I enjoy physical activities like cycling, playing volleyball, and training for a marathon. I also enjoy writing, both fiction and non-fiction. I discovered my interest in writing during my first job as a Technical Writer for a technology magazine in India; you can read some of my articles here. More recently, in November 2009, I completed the National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) challenge of writing a 50,000 word novel in 1 month. I enjoy reading books that explain complex subjects for the general masses, like Tao of Physics, Sciences of the Artificial, and Men of Mathematics. I also enjoy reading academic research papers on human-computer interaction and related subjects to stay up to date on the field.
Mouly is a true geek! When we worked together, Mouly was known as someone who could get under the hood of any program in the legacy system he maintained. Mouly has a tremendous ability to resolve problems quickly. At the same time, he was a great team player, helping and mentoring others around him.
